The Growth of ETFs

By Matt Schreiber – WBI President and Chief Investment Strategist

We were excited to have a special guest return to Bull|Bear Radio this week. Douglas Yones, Head of Exchange-Traded Products at the New York Stock Exchange joined us on Halloween to record our 50th podcast of the series. Here are some fun facts we learned about ETFs and the NYSE:

  • NYSE celebrates 226 years in business this year
  • There are over 2,100 ETFs listed in the U.S. as of September 30, 2018
  • 145 new ETFs have been listed on the New York Stock Exchange so far in 2018 (as of 10/31/18)
  • Those 145 products are from approximately 20 to 25 asset managers
  • 30-40% of the asset managers that listed new ETFs this year on the NYSE are brand new to the ETF space
  • The new ETFs on the NYSE are a mix of active and passive, and thematic ETFs are increasing in popularity (fixed income, smart beta, etc.)
